16 Sailors Detained In Equatorial Guinea, India Working To Free Them

Indian embassy stated it’s in common contact with crew members of the ship

Sixteen Indian sailors are reportedly in detention in Equatorial Guinea and the Indian mission within the central African nation is working carefully with the authorities involved for his or her launch.

In a letter to Exterior Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rajya Sabha MP AA Rahim stated the crew of ship ‘MT Heroic Idun’ included the Indians they usually had been in detention since mid-August.

On Twitter, the parliamentarian requested Jaishankar to “urgently intervene” within the matter of “unlawful detention” of the 16 Indian crew members.

The Indian embassy in that nation stated on Monday that it has been in common contact with the crew members over telephone.

“This Embassy and our Excessive Fee in Abuja are carefully working with authorities of Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria for the early launch of crew members of MV Heroic Idun. All crew members are secure and people within the Detention Centre have been shifted to the ship,” the Indian embassy in Equatorial Guinea tweeted.

“Since their detention in mid-August, this Mission has been in common contact with the crew members over telephone. We have now additionally had a number of consular entry/ visits to them. We’re carefully monitoring developments and are actively engaged for an early decision of the difficulty,” it added.
