Passenger Pigeon Day – Mark Avery

The Passenger Pigeon memorial at Cincinnati Zoo.

On 1 September 1914, between noon and 1 pm, within the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Backyard, Cincinnati, Ohio, a pigeon breathed her final, and along with her died her species.

The pigeon was often known as Martha, and the species was the Passenger Pigeon. Amongst all extinctions, this instance stays uncommon in two respects: the precision with which the timing is thought and the overwhelming abundance of the species just some many years earlier – for, just some many years earlier than Martha died, the Passenger Pigeon was the most typical hen on Earth.

These are the primary two paragraphs of my guide on the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon (revealed 2014 – it appears a very long time in the past).

I consider the Passenger Pigeon typically, however all the time on at the present time of the 12 months.

A Message from Martha: the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon and its relevance at this time by Mark Avery is revealed by Bloomsbury.  See opinions – click on right here.
