Historian Árpád von Klimó joins the podcast to offer an
introduction to József Cardinal Mindszenty (1892-1975), prince
primate of Hungary. Mindszenty was not solely the face of Hungarian
resistance to fascism and communism, however in the end a logo
Catholic resistance to communism worldwide. From 1948 to 1956 he
was in a communist jail, from 1956 to 1971 he was remoted from
the world as a refuge within the U.S. Legation in Hungary. He then
spent the final 4 years of his life in exile from his nation and in
rising pressure with the Vatican’s extra conciliatory strategy to
diplomacy with Soviet nations.
