Porsche Bids Farewell to the 991.2-Technology GT3 R

The IMSA Weathertech Championship sequence has only one extra race left on the calendar – the Petit Le Mans, which kicks off September twenty eighth at Street Atlanta. Groups are gearing up for an intense race to shut out the season. The outgoing GT3 R made its debut within the endurance sequence on the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona. The 510-hp, naturally aspirated flat-six-powered machine has been key to Porsche’s buyer groups — Pfaff Motorsports in GTD Professional, Wright Motorsports and Hardpoint in Professional-Am GTD. Collectively, these three groups have nabbed 14 victories, together with each championship since 2019 for his or her respective courses. Particularly, Pfaff Motorsports is likely one of the most profitable Porsche IMSA groups ever, bringing the outgoing 991.2 GT3 R to the Driver, Workforce and Producer titles in 2021, together with 11 wins and 5 pole positions.

Pfaff Motorsports Workforce Supervisor Steve Bortolotti stated the 991.2 “has been a really particular automobile for us as we had nearly all of our ‘firsts’ in IMSA with it.” He provides, “The pedigree it has amassed is unbelievable, and I’m happy with the job each our workers and Porsche have carried out to maintain a chassis with over 55,000 kilometers [34,175 miles] on it nonetheless working in tip-top form on the sharp finish of a particularly aggressive area.”

Bortolotti hopes to ship off the 991.2 GT3 R with a twelfth victory at Petit Le Mans.

The IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar season concludes on Saturday, October 1st at Street Atlanta. Qualifying takes place Friday afternoon.

The 992-generation GT3 R will debut alongside Porsche’s Penske-backed GTP hypercar on the Rolex 24 at Daytona on January twenty sixth via the twenty ninth, 2023.
